Xiaomi has just launched its latest offering in the budget smartphone segment, the Redmi 12 4G, as well as the Redmi 12 5G in India. The phones’ launch had been anticipated for quite some time and if you have been looking for a 5G smartphone that won’t burn a hole in your pocket, here is your chance to grab one.
Both phones have three colour options and various storage variants. The net effective price of the device starts from Rs 8,999. Here are the top specs of the phone along with the price and availability details.
The Redmi 12 4G has two variants, one with 4GB RAM and 128 GB storage, and the other with 6GB RAM and 128 GB storage. The 4GB RAM and 128 GB storage variant, when combined with bank offers, will cost Rs 8,999, while the 6GB RAM and 128 GB variant will be up for grabs for a net effective price of Rs 10,499.
Coming to Redmi 12 5G, which has made its world debut in India, the phone has three storage variants- 4GB + 128GB, 6GB + 128GB, and 8GB + 256GB.
The effective price of the 4GB RAM and 128 GB storage variant is Rs 10,999, while the effective price of the 6GB + 128GB variant is Rs 12,4999. The 8GB + 128 GB variant, when combined with Rs 1,000 bank offer, will cost Rs 14,999.
Talking about the availability, the phones will go on sale from August 4 from 12:00 pm onwards. The Redmi 12 5G will be available on the brand’s official website as well as Amazon. As for the Redmi 12 4G, it will be up for grabs on the brand’s official website and Flipkart.
The Redmi 12 4G comes with a glass back panel which gives it a premium look and feel. On the top, you have the camera setup with silver metallic rims surrounding the camera lenses. Out of the box, the Redmi 12 is powered by MIUI 14 (based on Android 13) and also comes with MIUI dialler, something that Redmi fans have been excited about. It is powered by the MediaTek Helio G88 processor.
Coming to the front, there is a 6.79-inch FHD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate. The display has a punch-hole notch design with slim bezels on three sides. The bezel on the phone’s chin is slightly thicker. The phone comes with a 5,000mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging. It weighs around 198.5 grams. The phone comes in three colour options, Pastel Blue, Moonshine Silver and Jade Black.
Talking about the camera, the phone has a 50-megapixel primary camera, an 8-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a 2-megapixel macro camera. The selfie camera is 8-megapixel.
The Redmi 12 5G has specs similar to the Redmi 12 4G. The main difference between the two phones is the chipset and 5G technology. The Redmi 12 5G, as the name suggests, supports 5G connectivity which is rare in this price segment. The phone also marks the debut of Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor in India and promises a buttery smooth performance.
Coming to the camera, the Redmi 12 5G has a 50-megapixel primary camera with a 2-megapixel depth camera and an LED flash. The front camera is of 8-megapixel.
Both phones have a 5000 mAh battery that supports 18W charging through a type C USB port.
