A fresh FIR has been filed against the makers of ‘Kaali’ – a documentary film, which landed in controversy for its poster that the director posted on Twitter. ‘Kaali’ director Leena Manimekalai had shared a poster in which a woman dressed as the Goddess was shown smoking. So far, cases have been filed against Manimekalai in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi for deliberately hurting religious sentiments.
The UP Police have booked the director under Sections 120-B, 153-B, 295, 295-A, 298, 504, 505(1)(b), 505(2), 66 and 67 of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The Delhi Police have booked her under the IPC sections 153A and 295A. Delhi Police PRO Suman Nalwa said the ‘Kaali’s’ poster was objectionable and was hurting the religious sentiments of a particular community. “Upon its complaint, an FIR under Sections 153A and 295A IPC has been registered against the director,” she said.
